Dr. Michael C. Miller

Dr. Michael Miller is a staff physicist in the Missile & Nuclear Technology section of the Proliferation Detection & Defense Systems Division at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he is the NIF Radiation Effects Program Manager- a joint effort between DOE and DTRA involving collaboration between Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Naval Research Laboratory, and a variety of contractors. He earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Houston in 1979, and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1992 and 1997 respectively. From 1979 to 1984 Mike worked in the environmental testing and consulting business; from 1984 to 1998 he was a staff member in the Safeguards Science and Technology group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. During his career, Mike has been active in the research and development of nuclear instrumentation used in a variety of applications including material accountancy and control, process monitoring, environmental monitoring, treaty verification, planetary exploration, and most recently high temperature plasma diagnostics. He has authored or co-authored over 50 scientific papers and reports and is a member of the American Physical Society and the American Nuclear Society.
