General Description : The documentation included here describes how the Level1 data were created and formatted. Details about the LP Spectrometers are also included here. Finally, some general IDL routines are included which can be used to read the CDF data files and and create IDL variables suitable for use in image plots.

1. Data Product Description

   The "Software Interface Specification" or SIS, describes in detail how the LP Spectrometer Level 1 data were reduced and formatted. There exist three different SIS documents which are given below. The version V001 describes the initial data submission to PDS. Version V002 describes updates to the first submission and in particular, describe the most recent corrections that were made to the data. Finally, the V002.2 version describes the final data formatting for the APS data.

2. Instrument Description

   The "Instrument Definition Document" or IDD, describes in detail the LP spectrometers and the raw data that comes from these instruments.

Programs

1. Read CDF program

   This is an IDL program that allows the user to read CDF files and to extract data structures.
   
   load_cdf.pro ASCII

2. Build 5x5 deg equal area grid

   This is an IDL program that allows the user to build a 720x360 longitude by latitude grid that mimics the surface coverage by equal area 5x5 degree pixels.
   
   make_grid.pro ASCII

3. Build 2x2 deg equal area grid

   This is an IDL program that allows the user to build a 720x360 longitude by latitude grid that mimics the surface coverage by equal area 2x2 degree pixels.
