GRS Level 1 Local Release

General Description : The Lunar Prospector Level 1 Data covers the following time periods: high1: Jan. 16 - Oct. 5, 1998; high2: Oct. 7 - Dec. 19, 1998; low: Dec. 19, 1998 - July 31, 1999. The Level-1 data are expressed in counts rather than abundances or fluxes.

Integrated Gamma Ray
A file containing integrated gamma ray spectra for the entire Moon. The individual gamma ray spectra have been integrated over the time and binned into equal area pixels that have a size of 5x5 degrees at the lunar equator. Each integrated spectra has 512 energy channels. Values are in units of counts per 32-seconds.

Thorium and Potassium Count Rates

A file containing thorium and potassium count rates derived from gamma ray spectra. The data have been binned into equal area pixels that have a size of 5x5 degrees at the lunar equator. The thorium count rate is the sum of counts from within an energy band (2.5 to 2.7 MeV) around the thorium gamma ray line of 2.6 MeV. The potassium count rate is the sum of counts from within an energy band (1.3 to 1.5 MeV) around the potassium gamma ray line of 1.46 MeV. Values are in units of counts per 32-seconds.

Auxiliary Data

A file that lists times of solar energetic particle events. Gamma ray and neutron spectrometer data are omitted from the data products for these time periods. The file also lists times of gain changes for the gamma ray spectrometer.
